00:00 Good day everyone. My name is Mr. Ife and I'm your business science instructor.
00:20 Our lesson topic says digestive system. Objectives. At the end of the class, students should
00:32 undertand the concept of digestion and digestive system. Students should be able to describe
00:40 the organs of digestive system. Students should be able to process digestion, absorption of digestive
00:49 food and assimilation of digested food. Students should also be able to discuss the ailment
00:57 of digestive system. Digestive system. Digestion takes place the moment your food gets
01:11 and meets with the saliva and then your food gets to the stomach and then converts into the energy
01:20 that is needed by the body for everyday activity and then the ones that are not needed
01:26 are being stored up and then are being passed out as feces or stool.
01:35 The digestive system is a process in which the exercise process foods and converts them into
01:42 substances needed by the body. So the body needs energy and the energy is going from the nutrients
01:52 received from the food that have been absorbed by the body. This is a diagram of a digestive system.
02:06 Yes, the diagram of a digestive system. You can see ingestion starts from here, the mouth
02:14 and then it makes with the saliva and then goes through to the food pipe. Yes, the food pipe
02:25 and then the stomach. So there are two types of intestine. We have the large intestine
02:33 and we have the small intestine and finally the anus where the excess food or the food that are
02:43 not needed by the body passes through. This is important because the body needs nutrients
02:51 from food and drink to walk properly and stay healthy. Proteins, fats, carbon hydrates,
03:00 vitamins, minerals and water. They are all nutrients and they are classified as the classes of what
03:08 food. Your digestive system breaks nutrients into parts, small enough for your body to absorb
03:15 and use as energy. So we grow as a result of the food that our body converts into energy
03:26 and our cell is being repaired as a result of these nutrients.
03:32 The digestive system is made up of gastrointestinal tract. It is tagged GI, gastrointestinal tract.
03:45 And the liver, the pancreas and the gallbladder are the solid organs of the digestive system.
03:56 The digestive system is made up of the gastrointestinal tract which is tagged GI.
04:03 Now some of the organs presented in the digestive system are liver, pancreas and gallbladder.
04:13 They are the solid organs present in the digestive system. The GI tract is a series of aloe organs.
04:23 The aloe organs are where oats pass through and they are joined in long twisted tube
04:30 from the mouth to the anus. The aloe organs that make up of the GI tract are the mouth
04:39 of sofagos, stomach, a small intestine, the largest intestine and finally the anus.
04:45 We are going to look at some of the organs that are in the digestive system.
04:52 And one of which is the mouth. Now what is the movement that is associated with the mouth?
05:00 When food comes into the mouth, you have the chewing process. So the movement that
05:05 occurs in the mouth is chewing. The second organ is the osufagos. The movement in osufagos is called
05:14 peristasis and peristasis is just a wave-like motion when food moves from the sofagos down to the stomach.
05:25 The third organ is the stomach. The upper muscle in stomach relaxes to let food enter.
05:34 And the lower muscle mixes food with digestive juice. So that's the movements that occur in the stomach.
05:43 The small intestine. The movement associated with small intestine is also peristasis.
05:49 The liver asks no movement. The large intestine is associated with the movement peristasis.
05:58 Food is our fuel and its nutrients gives our body cells the energy and the substance that they
06:10 need to work. For a daily activities to be productive, we need to eat and take some amount
06:19 of water so that the cells can be replenished. But food can, but before food can do that,
06:29 it must be digested into small pieces. The body can absorb and use. The first step in the digestive
06:36 process happens before we even taste the food. Just by smelling that homemade apple pie or thinking
06:45 about how delicious that ripe tomato is going to be, you start salivating. And the digestive
06:52 process begins in preparation for the first bite and the food gets into your mouth and mixes with
07:00 saliva digestion and started taking place. Almost all animals have a test tube digestive system
07:09 in which food enters into the mouth. Food passes through a long tube and also exits the body
07:21 as feces or poops through the anus. So the summary of the tube type digestive system is the food
07:32 entering the mouth, passing through the tube and then the body releases the feces through the anus.
07:42 Along the way food is broken down into tiny molecules so that the body can absorb the nutrient
07:51 needed by it. Protein moves the broken down into amino acids. Staches will broken down into sugar.
08:02 Farts are broken down into fatty acid or glycerol.
08:08 The worst part of food that the body can use are what we call the feces.
08:21 The process of digestion. The digestive process starts when you put food into your mouth.
08:30 Now let's discuss the mouth. Food starts to move through your GI tract when you eat.
08:38 When you swallow your tongue pushes the food into your throat,
08:47 then a small flap of tissue called epiglottis folds over your windpipe to prevent you from choking
08:58 and the food passes into the also faggles.
09:02 This is a diagram of a digestive system.
09:13 You have the proportion here, which is responsible for the movement and the swallowing of food.
09:24 And the food undergoes some mechanical process. The food is absorbed and replenishes the body
09:36 with nutrients. Here are so faggles. Once you begin to swallow,
09:44 the process of digestion becomes automatic. Your brain signals to the muscle of the also faggles
09:53 and parastasis begins. Parastasis is the movement associated with the also faggles.
10:03 Now we have the lower or sofaggles sphincter. When food reaches the end of your sofaggles,
10:11 a ring-like muscle called the lower or sofaggles sphincter relaxes and lets food passes into your stomach.
10:21 This sphincter usually says stays closed to keep what is in your stomach from flowing back into your
10:31 or sofaggles. So the importance is to allow it to stick instead of allowing it to flow back or
10:39 regurgitate. Stomach. After food enters your stomach, the stomach muscles mix the food and the
10:50 liquid with digestive juices. The stomach slowly empties its content called chime into your smaller
11:01 instance time. Now we have the small intestine and we have the largest intestine. Now the small
11:11 intestine, the muscle of the small intestine, mix food with digestive juice from the pancreas,
11:18 the liver and intestine and push the mixture forward for further digestion.
11:25 The walls of the small intestine absorbs water and the digested nutrients into your blood stream.
11:33 As parastasis continues, the waste product of the digestive process moves into the large intestine.
11:45 As parastasis continues, the waste product that are not needed by the body after it has processed
11:52 into energy, those that are left behind, moves into the large intestine.
11:57 Now the large intestine. The waste products from the digestive process include the
12:06 own digested part of water which is fluid or food and other older cells that must have died.
12:16 The large intestine absorbs water and changes the water from liquid into stool.
12:25 Parastasis helps to move the stool into your rectum. The rectum is very close to the anus.
12:37 Like you can see in the diagram beside.
12:40 The rectum, the lower end of your large intestine which is the rectum, it stores tools
12:52 until it pushes the tools out of your anus during the bulwell movement. You can see
13:04 from the diagram that is the stool during the bulwell movement.
13:13 The first of these processes is ingestion. An ingestion refers to the entry of food
13:27 into the alimentary canal through the mouth. The food is chewed and mixed with saliva.
13:35 The food leaves the mouth and then propels into the osufagos.
13:41 This act of swallowing the last voluntary act until defacation.
13:51 You begin to defacate and this is an example of proportion which refers to the movement of food
13:59 through the digested tract. So it includes both the voluntary process of swallowing
14:06 and the involuntary process of parastasis. Sometimes the movement of the food can be voluntary
14:14 and sometimes involuntary through parastasis.
14:22 Absorption of digested food. Digested food molecules are absorbed into the small intestine.
14:31 The food that has been digested are absorbed into the small intestine.
14:38 Now this means that they pass through the wall of the small intestine and into the blood stream.
14:47 Once they are there the digested food molecules are carried around the body to where they are needed.
14:54 A simulation of digested food. Now so what is the simulation of the digested food?
15:06 The simulation of the movement is the movement of digested food molecules
15:12 into the cell of the body where they are used. Now the movement of those food molecules
15:19 into the cell of the body will produce nutrients for the cell where they are
15:27 needed and where they are used. That is the simulation of digested food.
15:33 For example glucose is used in respiration to provide energy and a minor acid
15:40 are used to provide new proteins and so a simulation of digested food occurs.
15:47 Elmate of digested system. If there's a failure in the digested system there are elmate.
15:59 Now one of which is the gastro-sophagal reflux, reflux disease.
16:09 It is called the atborn. When stomach acid leaks and they break up into your alsofagos
16:17 they cause atborn. So as a result of the stomach acid when it leaks into the alsofagos it causes atborns.
16:30 Number two, elmate. Pelpic ossa disease. And it is a symptom which includes
16:40 stomach pain. You begin to experience stomach pain often and often.
16:46 The stomach flu is another elmate. It is an infection of the stomach and the upper part of the
16:56 small intestine. And the symptoms associated with stomach flu are diarrhea,
17:02 vomiting, stomach pain and cramps. Irritable Bowel syndrome. Ideas. This is an abdominal pain
17:16 that occurs at least three times a month for three months in a row. You experience it at least
17:25 three times in a month and for the next three months it begins to happen. You also might have
17:34 constipation or diarrhea. Another element is constipation. Constipation is difficult.
17:42 It is the difficulty or infrequent passage of stool. In most cases increasing fiber,
17:52 fluids and exercise will solve the condition of constipation.
17:57 Evaluation. You are to discuss the concept of digestion and digestive system.
18:09 Number two, mention organs of the digestive system. Number three, describe the absorption
18:19 of digestive food and the assimilation of digestive food. Thank you for watching.
18:26 I am Mr. Efec. Till next time.
