Addition of Binary Numbers

Transcript

00:00 Hello everyone, I am Esther Oluchi Ndubukwe, your Mathematist teacher.

00:17 And the topic of our today's lesson is addition of numbers in base two numerals.

00:24 At the end of this lesson, you should be able to add two or three digits binary numbers.

00:31 Addition in base two.

00:32 There are things to take note of when having in base two.

00:36 And there are, if you take notes that zero plus zero equals zero.

00:46 And also zero plus one equals one, one plus zero equals one.

00:56 And one plus one equals ten, one and zero.

01:02 So you must take note of all of this if you must add base two numbers together.

01:09 Zero plus one equals zero, zero plus zero, zero plus one equals one, one plus zero equals

01:14 one, the one plus one equals one and zero.

01:17 So, okay, now we have example one, one, zero, one, one, and one, one, zero, one, we

01:26 have to add them together.

01:27 So we write one, zero, one, one, one, one, zero, one, add them together, one plus one,

01:37 give you one and zero.

01:40 Write this one, then take the other one, carry the other one to the other side of the

01:43 next column, one plus one, we give you ten, sixty, one and zero, the right one, then take

01:51 one to the next column, one and one, give you what's the same thing, one, zero, right, zero,

01:59 the right or one here.

02:01 So we have one plus one, give you one and zero, one and zero plus another one, give you

02:10 one and one.

02:11 So have one and one.

02:13 So this is your answer in base two.

02:18 Now let's look at the next example, okay, now example two, we are asked to add up one,

02:30 one, zero, one, one, one, one, one, so we have one, zero, one, one, one, one, one, one, one,

02:42 one plus one is one and zero plus one, this, right one, take one to the next column, one

02:50 plus one is what, ten, that's one and zero, we did it with this right zero, take one.

02:58 Now we have very careful here, one and one is what's ten, plus one, give you eleven, then

03:10 plus one, that is we are doing one, two, three, four, four.

03:15 So we have, we have done this one plus one, this is one and zero, plus one, this, plus one.

03:21 How do you do this?

03:24 One plus one is ten already, then take one here, one plus one and under what, another ten.

03:34 So we have it on red, just add your on red here.

03:37 So have answers, one, zero, zero, zero, one.

03:43 And some of you, if you know that one plus one, you see that this is one, two, three, four.

03:48 You can also do this, like, four in binary is on red.

03:55 So that is not on red per se, one, zero, zero, because in binary number we don't have one,

04:00 two, ninety nine, or not to talk of on red, answers are usually zero and one, even by two,

04:05 in our previous class, that our binary numbers are only two digits, one and zero.

04:11 So that's as our answer for that.

04:15 So three, we asked to add up one, zero, one, and one, one, zero.

04:26 So we have one, zero, one, one, one, zero.

04:30 Let's add them together, one plus zero, I said is one, zero plus one is what's one, one,

04:37 one plus one is what's one and zero.

04:40 So that's the answer for that.

04:43 Let's see if I have another example to solve, okay, another example for, I'm doing this so

04:47 that you will be familiar with them.

04:49 So when I give you exercises to solve, we have no excuse to fail.

04:53 So we have one, zero, one, one, zero, one.

05:01 One plus one, we give you what's one and zero, write zero, one here, one plus zero is one,

05:07 one plus zero is one, one plus one, one and zero.

05:11 That's the answer.

05:12 So let's continue, example five, example five, one, one, one, plus one, zero, one, just

05:29 add it together, one plus one, we give you one and zero, write zero, this one plus one,

05:36 we give you what's one plus one, we give you still one and zero, write zero, then here, one

05:43 plus one, the same thing, here.

05:45 So we have this answer.

05:50 Now we have the exercises below for you to do for mastery.

05:54 We have calculated for low in in base two, one and one, zero, one, one, add them together.

06:03 We have this one, one and one, then one, one, one, all of them in base two, add them together,

06:09 then we have this one also.

06:11 So take your time and make sure you solve these exercises.

06:16 Thank you for watching.

06:18 I am Esther Oluchi, IBBK.
