Introduction to Sets

video lesson SS1 · Further Mathematics · 20:35

This lesson defines a set and explains set notation. It covers types of sets, cardinality, and set operations. Venn diagrams are also introduced for solving real-life problems.

  • 05:51 “And that's give us nine. Also, let's look at the example number two as well. Example number two. We are to list, list the members or elements of the following sets. Our A is x such that five is less than x or less than e...”
  • 02:33 “from the multiples of four up to 40. So we have four eight twelve sixteen twenty twenty four twenty thirty two thirty six and forty. And also, let's also define the cardinality of the sets. When we say that it said, it s...”
  • 06:42 “so we also, our eight will also be, we not be included. We also have B, which is a x such that zero less than or equal to x less than or equal to five. So it means we will start listing the element from zero. One, two, t...”

Converting Base 10 to Binary

video lesson JSS1 · Mathematics · 15:53

This lesson teaches how to convert base 10 numerals into binary numbers using two methods: subtraction and successive division. Students will learn to identify the powers of 2 and apply them in the conversion process.

  • 03:18 “So, we are given the number 5. Remember in our previous lesson, we counted these numbers, then we decided to group them in 2s, then in 8, and so on. So, for number 5, using the subtraction method, we look at our paper ab...”
  • 02:30 “And now we are given the number 5. Okay, now these are the powers of 2. So, if it is good, you get familiar with them as you convert numbers in base 10 to base 2. Okay, now we are given number 5 to convert to base 2. So,...”
  • 04:54 “So, the 1 that we have here, there's a 1 here. So, we just put down 1 here, there's a 1 here, add your 1 here. So, we see that this 4 plus 1 equals 5. So, the binary equivalent of 5 in base 10 equals what? It's very clea...”
