- There is a convention about how tenses in verbs should appear in sequence in the same sentence.
- If the finite verb in a sentence is:
- a) Present, those in other parts of the sentence should also be in the present.
- b) Past, subsequent verbs, should also be in the past e.g.
- i. Obi says that he is the captain of the team.
- ii. Ola said that he wanted to be the goalkeeper.
