Nominalisation

Overview

Students should be able to Recognize the devices for turning other parts of speech into nouns in English usage. Turn verbs and adjectives to nouns. Use nominalized parts of speech in sentences.

What you'll learn
  • Parts of speech that can be nominalized are: a) Adjective e.g. black blackness beautiful – beauty wise – wisdom strong – strength c) Verbs e.g. Cry – crying
  • i. Crying is not allowed
  • ii. Sleep – sleeping; Sleeping at work is prohibited.
  • iii. To cry is prohibited.
