Noun Phrases

Overview

Students should be able to Identify the features of a noun phrase. List the form, position and functions of a noun phrase. Use noun phrases correctly in sentences.

What you'll learn
  • Features:
  • a) Noun phrase as subject of a verb e.g. “praising the teacher is the student’s delight”
  • b) Noun phrase as object of a verb e.g. “It gives me joy to teach the children”
  • c) Noun phrase as complement of a verb e.g. “He is the new chairman.”
  • d) Noun phrase as an opposition to a noun e.g. “Mr. Ibe, a great teacher, writes and sings”.
  • e) Noun phrase as object of a preposition e.g. “the senate agreed about the immunity clause”.
  • Passage on environmental pollution, health, population/ family life or HIV / AIDS, containing noun phrases.
